SwipeRx Promotes Private Sector Engagement to Address AMR in Asia

🌏 Asia has one of the highest rates of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the world.    SwipeRx is honored to be part of one of the first regional initiatives to encourage greater engagement of pharmacies and other private sector actors to address AMR with support from the Fleming Fund through the CAPTURA 2 initiative led by the International Vaccine Institute.

🔍 Applying our deep knowledge of market actors involved in manufacturing, importing, distributing, disposing, prescribing, and dispensing antibiotics across Southeast Asia, SwipeRx has provided leadership and technical expertise to promote effective private sector engagement in this critical area of public health.

In the past year alone, we have:

🎯 Completed a rapid literature review to identify evidence-based, private sector engagement strategies with potential to address AMR

🎯 Created a practical guide to help Ministries of Health across Asia plan to engage the private sector to strengthen national surveillance systems; motivate improved prescribing and dispensing practices, expand diagnostic and immunization access through pharmacies and other private providers, and build more ethical antibiotic supply chains.

🎯Trialed draft versions of the guide with private and public sector leaders from Indonesia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, and Nepal during a regional workshop hosted by SwipeRx last month.

🚀We look forward to building on these important achievements to further engage pharmacies and other private sector actors to promote responsible antibiotic access, use, and disposal by private as well as public sector actors at all levels of the supply chain.
