Opportunities for Improved Pharmacy Access to Aged Healthcare Products to Economically Empower Women on Both Sides of the Pharmacy Counter

As Vietnam’s population ages, unpaid caregiving responsibilities at home are increasingly disproportionately for women. With support from Investing in Women, an initiative of theĀ  Australian Government, SwipeRx conducted a market scan to assess the potential for expanded pharmacy access to aged-care health products to lighten caregiving responsibilities at home, enabling caregivers to dedicate more time into income generating activities.Ā

The brief linked in the comment describes several specific aged care products–not yet widely-stocked by pharmacies in Vietnam, with potential to support healthier aging and ease caregiving responsibilities at home, including:

ā–Ŗļø Continuous glucose monitoring patches and other health risk monitoring tools;Ā

ā–Ŗļø Wearable devices, anti-slip tape and other products to improve sleep quality and reduce night-time fall risk;Ā

ā–Ŗļø Pill boxes with automated reminders and other products to facilitate medication adherence.Ā Ā

Beyond lightening caregiver workload at home, pharmacy access to these products can expand business opportunities for pharmacy operators. In Vietnam, where women represent the majority of the pharmacy workforce but remain underrepresented in pharmacy leadership, this represents an important pathway to building women pharmacists’ success both as healthcare providers and as businesswomen.
